I created two custom animations for scum.art, the personal website of the artist SCUM. Each animation takes a different visual approach but shares the same energy — experimental, raw, and slightly unhinged in a way that fits SCUM’s identity.
As soon as you land on the site, you're greeted by a looping animation, spinning in place like a meditative ritual. The sword model was created by 3D artist Calder Moore — I handled the animation and motion design side, building an animation loop that sets a distinct tone for the site: calm, sharp, and quietly intense.
This one mixes frame-by-frame animation with motion graphics. It’s placed on the Family page — a section that feels more personal and rooted. The animation shows a handshake, simple and direct, representing connection and shared ground. Stylistically, it’s clean but textured, balancing organic movement with graphic rhythm.
I combined two of my liquid-style variations into a symmetrical composition, matching SCUM’s background element. Then animated the full loop in After Effects, blending motion graphics with Calder’s 3D weapon, creating a minimal, looping entrance.
The sword animation on the homepage is a blend of 3D and motion graphics. The weapon itself was designed by SCUM and brought to life in 3D by Calder Moore.
The goal was to give the weapon presence without overwhelming the page — just enough movement to feel alive, like a quiet ritual looping in the background. A subtle fusion of worlds: SCUM’s design, Calder’s modeling, and my animation.
I started by animating the handshake in After Effects. Once the hand movement was locked, I brought it into Callipeg to draw the liquid-style reveal, matching the flow and timing of the handshake. The liquid element was added after SCUM specifically asked to bring more of my style into the piece — a direction I was genuinely excited about.
